FDA's authority over Lasik surgery

Doctors have to follow certain guidelines or use tools and lasers only approved by the Food and Drug Administration. You do not want to go to a doctor who does not use FDA approved lasers. Here is some more information on the FDA:

• Doctors can only use lasers approved by the Food and Drug Administration
• FDA regulates the non-prescription contact even though they have no use except to color the eye. They can cause infections too so that is why the FDA got involved.
• They do not mandate any ads or anything like that for Lasik but if it offers false promises then they will step in and talk to you about redoing the ad.
