How to find a surgeon
Not every eye doctor can perform lasik surgery. The surgery must be performed by an ophthalmologist that has had the training. You can find approved ophthalmologist by visit the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s website or talk with your eye doctor to ensure he is a member of this organization. Refractive surgeons can be found by contacting the International Society of Refractive Surgery as well.
Before you agree to lasik surgery, you should ask the surgeon a few questions, which include:
- What is their experience with the various Lasik procedures?
- How long have they been performing Lasik procedures?
- What is their success rate?
- Can I receive 20/20 vision?
- How many of your patients have received 20/20 vision?
- How many of your patients have received 20/40 vision?
- How many of your patients return from enhancements?
- What type of laser do they prefer?
- What will happen before, during, and after lasik surgery?
- Who handles after surgery care?
- What are the risk and possible complications and side effects?
