How the eyes work
Understanding how your eyes work will enable you to understand the basic concept of lasik surgery.
The way in which your eyes work:
- The cornea and the lens of your eyes must bend light rays so they center on the retina.
- The retina will then convert the light rays into impulses sent to the brain
- The brain will recognize these impulses as images
When the light rays are not centered correctly on the retina the image you see is blurry, called refractive error.
Lasik surgery corrects these refractive errors, which include such errors as:
- Myopia — nearsightedness
- Hyperopia — farsightedness
- Astigmatism — images are blurred
- Presbyopia — known as aging eye
