LASEK
Lasek eye surgery is new procedure. Many people know this type of surgery as epithelial Lasik or E-Lasik. This type of eye surgery is mainly used for individuals that have corneas that are either too thin or too flat for traditional Lasik eye surgery.
The Lasek Procedure:
- The epithelium (the outer layer of the cornea) is cut with a trephine
- The eye is covered with an alcohol solution for around 30 seconds
- The solution causes the edges of the epithelium to become loose.
- The alcohol solution is removed from the eye
- The edge of the epithelial flap is lifted by a tiny hoe like device
- The flap is folded back
- An excimer laser is used to reshape the cornea
- The flap is put back in place.
