LASEK

Lasek eye surgery is new procedure. Many people know this type of surgery as epithelial Lasik or E-Lasik. This type of eye surgery is mainly used for individuals that have corneas that are either too thin or too flat for traditional Lasik eye surgery.

The Lasek Procedure:

  • The epithelium (the outer layer of the cornea) is cut with a trephine
  • The eye is covered with an alcohol solution for around 30 seconds
  • The solution causes the edges of the epithelium to become loose.
  • The alcohol solution is removed from the eye
  • The edge of the epithelial flap is lifted by a tiny hoe like device
  • The flap is folded back
  • An excimer laser is used to reshape the cornea
  • The flap is put back in place.
