PRK LASIK surgery

PRK is the original refractive surgery procedure. This procedure was created in the early 1980’s but the first FDA approval was not until 1995. Canada was the perfect place for Americans prior to that time to receive this type of laser eye surgery.

PRK procedure:

  • An excimer laser is used to remove small pieces of the surface of the cornea thus reshaping the cornea.
  • The procedure is much like other laser eye surgeries in which the cornea is reshaped using a laser.

Benefits of PRK laser eye surgery:

  • Nearsighted individuals (flatten the too steep cornea)
  • Farsighted individuals (make a steeper cornea)
  • Individuals with Astigmatism (smooth the irregular cornea)
