What to expect before LASIK surgery
After you visit your eye doctor and he gives you a complete eye examination he/she will refer you to a refractive surgeon if you desire lasik surgery.
When you visit the surgeon, remember to bring along your prescription records.
The surgeon will during your first exam:
- Dilate your pupils to ensure your prescription is correct
- Examine your eyes including a glaucoma test and a retina exam
- Check the curvature of your cornea
- Check the curvature of your pupils – you may not be a candidate if your pupils are too large
- Check the topography of your eyes
- Check the thickness of your cornea
Next, he/she will explain:
- The procedure
- The risks
- Benefits
- Alternative options
- Possible complications
Then you will be asked to sign an informed consent form. |
