What to expect before LASIK surgery

After you visit your eye doctor and he gives you a complete eye examination he/she will refer you to a refractive surgeon if you desire lasik surgery.

When you visit the surgeon, remember to bring along your prescription records.

The surgeon will during your first exam:

  • Dilate your pupils to ensure your prescription is correct
  • Examine your eyes including a glaucoma test and a retina exam
  • Check the curvature of your cornea
  • Check the curvature of your pupils – you may not be a candidate if your pupils are too large
  • Check the topography of your eyes
  • Check the thickness of your cornea

Next, he/she will explain:

  • The procedure
  • The risks
  • Benefits
  • Alternative options
  • Possible complications

Then you will be asked to sign an informed consent form.
